Allison Zuber, senior at Blackford Junior Senior High School, has been awarded the 2022 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship in Blackford County. Zuber is the daughter of Jason Zuber and the late Christine Zuber and the sister of Maria Trent (Chris Smith) and Michelle Coleman. She plans to study elementary education at Indiana University in Bloomington.

Zuber tells about her evolution from her junior high years and her mother’s death to her determination to do better for herself in school. She became involved with Student Council as a freshman and then was elected a district representative for the Indiana Association of Student Councils. She wants to help students have better lives and that goal has led to her career choice in teaching.

The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship provides for full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year for required books and equipment for four years of undergraduate study on a full-time basis. The scholarship must be used for a baccalaureate degree at any eligible Indiana public or private nonprofit college or university.

Blackford County’s Lilly Endowment Community Scholar is chosen on the basis of a student’s academic record, volunteerism and community service, extracurricular activities, financial need and personal goals as presented in a personal interview with the selection committee.

Zuber is the 41st recipient of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship in Blackford County since the start of the program in 1998.
