In order to preserve the memory of the Hartford City High School, the Hartford City Airedales Inc. committee was formed in 2008. The idea was to build a permanent memorial to the graduates, teachers and employees of Hartford City High. More than 5,000 students graduated from HCHS from 1891 through 1969 and even though the school is gone, their legacy will remain forever.
The memorial park was paid for entirely by donations and funds raised by committee efforts. Raffles and golf outings were held as fundraisers and Hartford City High School mouse pads were sold in addition to the memorial bricks.
The 2,000 square foot park located on the west side of the block where HCHS once stood features engraved bricks with messages, names and memories of those who want to remember and share their past with the community. So far, about 475 memorial bricks have been sold. Bricks can be purchased for $60 each (three lines of engraving included) and any additional donations are welcome. Visit the Memorial Park website or contact the Foundation for additional information.
