Welcome

The Blackford County Community Foundation serves the charitable needs of donors, professional advisors, and nonprofit organizations in Blackford County, Indiana. We’re working to make Blackford County a better, more vibrant place to live, work, and raise a family.

Student Philanthropists Grow Endowment Fund

Local students contributed $4,022 toward alleviating hunger in the community through their Penny-a-Day initiative. Their efforts contributed to the larger Replenish Hunger Initiative that provided an additional 50 cents from the Blackford County Community Foundation for every dollar donated. All contributions went to the Foundation’s existing local Second Harvest Food Bank endowment that benefits the residents of Blackford County.

The goal for the youth drive was for every student to donate a penny each day of the campaign. Overall, students donated more than 2 ½ times that amount, and at Montpelier School, the students donated over ten times that goal amount. Melinda Otwinoski, Montpelier School guidance counselor, attributes the great success at Montpelier to a curricular focus on sharing with others during December and to the involvement of various community members in providing a dollar-for-dollar match to the student contributions for a given week. Nurturing the High Riding Camp Legacy

For one week last June, thirteen local young people with special needs attended the first ever High Riding Equestrian and Arts Day Camp. This recreational camp was tailored to accommodate their disabilities and give them new experiences in riding horses and in art and dance activities. The camp was so well received by the young people that their parents unanimously asked for a second summer. To accommodate their request, plans are currently underway to hold a larger camp in June 2012 with horseback activities at the McCammon-Mackey Farm and swimming and art activities at Blackford High School.

Since last year’s funding is unavailable for the 2012 camp, we are asking for donations to keep the program free of charge for campers. You may donate online or mail a donation to the Blackford County Community Foundation, 121 N. High St., P.O. Box 327, Hartford City, IN 47348. More...
