SUBJECT: Lilly Endowment Inc. matching $250,000 SRD grant to Blackford County Community Foundation

The Blackford County Community Foundation is continuing to accept donations for its matching $250,000 SRD (Strategic Resource Development) grant awarded by Lilly Endowment Inc. This means the Endowment is matching dollar-for-dollar all gifts given to build operating/administrative resources for the local Foundation through March 31, 2014 for a total $500,000 grant award.

 The end result for the Sustaining Resource Development program is for the Endowment to see the Blackford County community working together to match this grant so the Blackford County Community Foundation’s asset base will be strengthened. This will allow the Foundation to have expanded resources that are sufficient to maintain programs and continuously inspire civic improvement, whether it be good or bad economic times in Blackford County.

In 2010, Second Harvest Food Bank provided 211,833 pounds of food worth $339,013 to Community and Family Services in Blackford County and Second Harvest Food Bank tailgates at the 4-H Fairgrounds. Clearly, our friends and neighbors need our help in providing food for their families.

For the 2011 graduating high school class, the Blackford County Community Foundation gave away $96,200 in scholarships to Blackford County High School students who are pursuing their postsecondary education at colleges and universities of their choice.
