Congratulations to the recipient of the 2012 Lilly Scholarship, Sierra Rodgers. As a senior at Blackford High School, Sierra has been heavily involved in
school activities. She is a member of the volleyball and tennis teams, National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Jobs for America’s
Graduates (JAG). Recently, Sierra received a first place writing award at the JAG Regional Career Development Conference held at Ball State University
Alumni Center.
Sierra is also enrolled in several Advanced Placement classes at BHS and hopes to start college with advanced credit. She plans to attend Taylor University
in the fall and pursue a pre-med degree. She is excited about learning in Taylor’s new science facilities. After her years at Taylor, she hopes to attend
medical school at IU Bloomington and eventually become an ER doctor.
When Sierra’s parents, Mark and Bonita Rodgers, received the call informing them of the scholarship committee’s decision, they immediately called Sierra
and asked her to come home without telling her why. Balloons and a small party welcomed her, giving her the good news. “I didn’t believe them at first. I
didn’t understand what was going on,” she said. “I feel blessed. God is providing for me and my family.”
