The January 31 Honor Reception acknowledged the leadership contributions of the fifty individuals who have served on the Foundation’s board of directors
since its beginning. Special recognition was given to the founding directors: Robert Barry, Rod Black, Leonard Fisher, Jeff Glancy, Max
Hiser (deceased), Joe Kyle, Tom Laymon, Ted Leas, Joyce Lee, Ed McCoin, Bert Monfort (deceased), Kenneth Neff, George Reidy (deceased), Fred Walker, David
Wilson (deceased), and Robert Wyne. Directors who served 10 years were honored as well.
Liz Wright, recently retired executive director of the Community Foundation of Grant County, was also honored. She provided the expertise and guidance to
the new Blackford County Community Foundation after the founding directors contracted with the Community Foundation of Grant County for her services. The
Blackford County Community Foundation had no office and no paid staff to promote the work of the Foundation during those first years.
Ben Oswalt was also recognized for his contributions to the tremendous growth of the Foundation during his twelve years as executive director from 1999 to
2010. During his tenure, the Foundation’s assets increased from $1.4 million to $5.3 million.
