What is the Community Foundation?
The Blackford County Community Foundation was formed in March of 1997 from a merger of the Montpelier Community Foundation, Inc. (first incorporated on May 15, 1989) and the Blackford County Foundation (Hartford City-based).
The Foundation exists to enhance the lives of Blackford County citizens and organizations by encouraging and assisting donors, providing prudent financial management, making philanthropic grants, and serving as a catalyst for positive community change.
We invest our assets wisely so that we can grow and continue to provide financial assistance in education, community development, and human services. We also plan and coordinate projects between the Foundation and other community services.
Mission
Enhancing the quality of life for Blackford County residents by
encouraging and assisting donors,
providing financial management,
making philanthropic grants, and
serving as a catalyst for positive change.
The mission of the Blackford County Community Foundation (BCCF) has always been to enhance and improve the quality of life in Blackford County. We are accomplishing this by continually increasing our endowed assets so that we can better meet to the needs of the community. Currently the BCCF holds nearly $6 million in assets.
We strive to be more purposeful and effective in the grants we give to the community in an effort to respond to its needs. The Foundation has granted nearly $3 million since its inception in 1997 and $108,225 so far in 2011. Additionally, $89,700 was distributed in scholarships to graduating seniors of local high schools to help fund their postsecondary education.
What do we do?
By bringing together charitable endeavors with people who care deeply about the Blackford County community, we allow the ambitions of our donors to impact the Blackford County community in a positive way. This is accomplished through:
- Insightfully addressing the needs of the community as a Catalyst for change and as a Convener for discussion.
By offering scholarships to students, and grants to non-profit community programs, we use the resources at hand to address the needs of the community at large in an effort to strategically increase the standard of living of those in the community.
